THE gift of the gab has brought Lynda Ellery a Distinguished Toastmasters Award.
Mrs Ellery is a member of Toastmasters Club Foothills, which aims to develop speaking and leadership skills.
“It’s been a lot of fun being a member here and it’s fantastic to receive this recognition for my efforts,” she said.
“I’ve learned a lot about communication at various levels, and serving on the committee has really boosted my confidence in my private and work life.
“I believe that Toastmasters has turned my life around.”
Mrs Ellery said she had been given promotions at work and had recently found “the love of her life”, whom she married last November, all of which she attributed to her work at the club.
Toastmasters area governor Robyn Richards said it was wonderful to see the growth in Mrs Ellery since she joined the club.
“Past members have included people from all walks of life – we have had a doctor, accounts people, mums, people from overseas wanting to improve their English and so many more,” Mrs Richards said.
“There are many elements to the programs run at Foothills, but its strength lies in the fact that the club members learn from each other in a warm, friendly and encouraging environment.”
The club will hold a demonstration meeting on February 1 at Liddelow Homestead, 9 Cooper Avenue, Kenwick, at 6.45pm. To attend, RSVP on 0434 971 609 or 0466 436 992. For more information visit http://foothills. freetoasthost.org/.
