ONE of the world’s fastest growing sports, ultimate frisbee, is flying into Medina thanks to a series of free clinics.

The non-contact sport is played with a flying disc that must be passed up the field to the end zone to score.

FEAR Ultimate Disc Club president Steve Baker, who will run the free clinics, said the fast-paced game involved running, jumping and diving and the rules were very simple and easy to learn.

“Anyone can play ultimate, it can be played mixed with old and young players on the team together,” he said.

“We teach it in schools and have kids from grade five upwards playing, and we also have adults of over 50 who play and enjoy themselves regularly.”

The social game is self-|refereed, cheap and can be played on any open space and is played at a world championship level.

Mr Baker said Kwinana council approached the group to make the sport available in the area.

“We have had a small group playing in Kwinana since October 2008,” he said. “Our aim is now to get enough new players to start a regular weekly league and later enter teams in tournaments.”

The clinics will be held at the Medina Oval in Brownell Crescent on Mondays from 6pm to 7.30pm from March 8.
