Jackson funeral plans in disarray

02/Jul/2009

Comments:

MICHAEL Jackson will not be laid to rest at his Neverland Ranch after officials reportedly failed to overcome regulations concerning burials on private property.

The Los Angeles Times reports Jackson's family had wanted to bury the king of pop at his sprawling estate northwest of Los Angeles.

But  Santa Barbara County officials were unable to clear the way for the burial at Neverland to go ahead, it says.

"It's nobody's fault. Everybody in Santa Barbara feels bad about it," a source close to the situation was quoted as saying.

Earlier reports had indicated Jackson's body would be placed on public display at Neverland on Friday before a private service for his family at the Ranch on Sunday.

But in another development, gossip website TMZ has released a family statement denying those plans.

"Contrary to previous news reports, the Jackson family is officially stating that there will be no public or private viewing at Neverland," it said.

"Plans are underway regarding a public memorial for Michael Jackson, and we will announce those plans shortly."
